Box office: The Jungle Book Gets A Huge Opening In India

Bringing back the childhood memories, The Jungle Book has taken a huge opening at the Box Office. While it was expected that around 6-7 crore would come in on the opening day, the fact that it has touched an astonishing 10.09 crore is huge.

Disney marketed the film quite smartly (and aggressively) and would now be reaping benefits from it. The film has in fact taken the second highest opening of 2016 after Airlift (12.35 crore).

In fact if one compares it with the other Hollywood biggies that have turned out to be huge in India, The Jungle Book scores a place pretty high in the charts.
Furious 7 – 12.38 crore
Avengers – The Age of Ultrons – 10.25 crore
The Jungle Book – 10.09 crore
Mission Impossible Rogue Nation – 6.2 crore
Spectre – 6.4 crore

As things stand today, The Jungle Book is set to cross the 35 crore mark over the weekend.

Hamari Adhuri Kahani : 1st Monday (Day 4) Box Office Collections

Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan starrer Hamari Adhuri Kahani managed to rake in 3.03 croreson its 4th day, i.e. 1st Monday at the Domestic Box Office. The movie now stands at a total of19.52 crores nett so far.

The film is enjoying tax free status in MP and Chhatisgarh, but that too made a little difference in CI circuit. HAK did slight better in the Gujarat – Saurashtra belt. Single screens in mass circuits have done higher business than multiplexes in metros.
Overall, the film could have done much better, but the low critics rating and a bad mouth publicity has affected its performance to a great extent.

Dil Dhadakne Do : 2nd Monday (Day 11) Box Office Collections

Dil Dhadakne Do managed to pull off a decent second Monday at the Domestic Box Office. The film collected 1.50 crores on its Day 11 and now stands with a total collection of 67.50 croresthe domestic box office.

Since the new release Hamari Adhuri Kahani is performing much lower than expected, Dil Dhadakne Do benefited from it as it remained steady at the urban centers.
The film is a family drama revolving around the story of a Punjabi dysfunctional family.

Hamari Adhuri Kahani box office collection: Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan’s love story mints Rs 10.19 crore!

On day 2, Hamari Adhuri Kahani raked in Rs 5.15 crore at the Indian box office…

Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan’s last film together Ghanchakkar failed miserably at the box office and now the two are back with Mohit Suri’s much-awaited directorial venture Hamari Adhuri Kahani. Well, expectations were high from this one as the promos looked promising but sadly this one too hasn’t really packed a solid punch at the box office. Co-starring Rajkummar Rao, Emraan and Vidya’s intense love story has only managed to collect Rs 10.19 crore in the first two days. On day 1 (Friday), Suri’s film minted Rs 5.04 crore and on day 2 (Saturday) though the figures went up, the difference wasn’t a drastic one. Hamari Adhuri Kahani grossed Rs 5..15 crore on Saturday thus bringing its two day domestic total to Rs 10.19 crore.
Trade portal Boxofficeindia reported, “Hamari Adhuri Kahani failed to make any headway at the box office on Saturday as collections were similar to Friday. The business on Saturday was dominated by Jurassic World which jumped around 35-40% from the previous day. The fate ofHamari Adhuri Kahani has been sealed with the dull business on Saturday.”
So far Emraan and Vidya’s latest outing hasn’t got cash registers jingling and it won’t be surprising if this trend continues in the coming days. But will Hamari Adhuri Kahani clock in a decent lifetime collection? Let’s wait and watch!

Tanu Weds Manu Returns Is The Fastest 100 Crore Grosser Of 2015

The loveable Tanu and Manu have done the unthinkable, and this time around they have Datto to thank as well. Together, the trio has managed to achieve a feat which wasn’t really on the cards for even their near and dear ones (read, director Aanand L Rai who has co-produced the film with Krishika Lulla). However, in the times when the biggest of films have failed like nine pins, this sweet and simple desi tale has won hearts of millions already and still going strong.
In 8 days flat, the Kangna Ranaut and Madhavan starrer has globally grossed 101.67 crore at the box office. Out of this, just the India box office collections stands at a whopping 76.67 crorealready, what with a stunning second Friday that resulted in 6.65 crore coming in. While this fabulous trend means that at least 15 crore more would come on Saturday and Sunday, hence resulting in the 90 crore mark being crossed in India in 10 days flat, the 100 crore nett mark would be achieved inside two weeks itself.
With this, Tanu Weds Manu Returns – which costs just 30 crore after including P&A, has managed Blockbuster status for itself. Also, in a year that has seen only four films cross the 100 crore mark globally so far (the other being Baby, Gabbar Is Back and Piku), Tanu Weds Manu Returns has managed quite a few records, including highest weekend, biggest Monday, best cumulative weekdays as well as quickest march towards the 100 crore mark globally.
Says Krishika Lulla, “People expect certain kind of films from me and I need to justify my association with the final product. For me, content is everything. Especially real cinema is something that I enjoy most, and Tanu Weds Manu Returns is one such film. I like to make such kind of films and I hope to keep the trend on and continue to win audience trust and confidence.”
Madhavan is of course ecstatic as his three year break from the big screen has brought in dividends. When contacted, he said, “I am not at all surprised with the film’s super-success. There are some films that give you that confidence during the shooting itself, and Tanu Weds Manu Returns was one such affair.”

Welcome To Karachi Day 1 (1st Friday) Box Office Collections

Welcome To Karachi start off on a low note. The film starring Arshad Warsi and Jackky Bhagnaniin key roles after having a dull opening, could not pick up later in the day too. The first day business of the film was approximately 1.25 crores at the domestic box office. It performed its best in Mumbai, but other cities such as Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat were quite low.

Although amongst the new releases, this is the only film that has survived. Last week’s release Tanu Weds Manu Returns is still dominating the multiplexes and single screens. Welcome To Karachi is a comic tale of two Indians who get stranded in Karachi,Pakistan accidentally after their cruise takes a wrong detour.
